Storm (12-1) vs. WoWW (9-4) WoWW inflicted the only blemish on The Storms otherwise perfect season week 7, since then The Storm have rattled off 6 straight wins to cruise to a West Division Title. Now, think about that. That Storm won 6 in a row, played WoWW and lost and here they are again facing WoWW after 6 wins in a row. Coincidence? You make the call. When interviewed about the opportunity to play WoWW in round 1, Coach Sheridan said one word, "Revenge!!!!" and then fell off his bar stool. WoWW has won 4 straight to secure their 3rd South Division title in as many years but Caoch McMahon will need a miracle to pull this one off though. The Storm have the #1 and #2 ranked running backs, lead the league in scoring, record, and have a perfect 36 the power ranking. To add insult to injury, they also have Harrison the perfect counter to offset Manning. On paper this should be an easy win for The Storm. But on paper they should have won week 7 too. :)
Strom 85 WoWW 75 Magic (9-4) vs. Crushers (9-4) Coach Mike Holmgren has certainly been scratched off The Magic Christmas card list this year. After riding the talented Shaun Alexander to win a 2nd straight North division title, Shaun has been benched in favor of the retuning Ricky "Running" Waters. An action the produced more four-letter words from Coach Quinn's mouth than I thought were in the English language. The Cougars, who only managed to score 92 points in the last 2 weeks after losing their Moonshine Still, have seen Alexander's demise as an omen of an automatic win for them. However, The Magic being true to their character have pulled another running back out of their ass and resurrected a once thought dead Michael Bennett. Bennett rattled off 23 points against a tough Tennessee D last week and this week plays a less than tough Detroit D. In other words the Magic is in league with Satan and Caoch Lynn better bring some Holy Water instead of Moonshine.

Sharks (8-5) vs. Maulers (6-7) The Sharks lost 3 out of their last 4 in order to earn their spot as the #1 seed in this years Bridesmaid Bowl. Until now, I thought that sharks could swallow their food whole, but clearly they not only can, but WILL choke when pressure is applied. The Maulers will be without Brian Griese this week but still will be healthier than they have been in a month. Coach Piro has also called this game The Maulers super bowl for 2001. He compared the feeling of beating the sharks to the same satisfied feeling he gets when he eats an entire box of Twinkies in one sitting. (And to look at him I suspect he does that daily.) Couple that with the fact that Coach Osama bin Michaud is still keeled over in a fetal position and you have to like the Maulers chances.
Maulers 55 Sharks 50 Knights (7-6) vs. Panthers (7-6) The Knights deserve some congrats. They came up just sort this year but are easily the most improved team in the league. The Panthers deserve some props as well for finishing the year with their 1st winning record. Congrats are in order to Coach Sour. Keep that sort of thing up and next year I may have to pick you to win a game or two…. But not this week. Knights 75 Panthers 60
Nukers (4-9) vs. Lightning (1-12) The Lightning aren't nearly as bad as their record would indicate. They simply just have not found a way to win the close games yet. This year they lost 5 games by 7 points or less and 2 of those were by 3 points Fate is like that sometimes. To complicate matters for them this week; Coach of the Year Dave Ryan gets Ricky Watters back this week in a full time capacity. That ought to be just enough firepower for the Lightning to lose another close one again.

Crushers (4-9) vs. Onslaught (2-11) I had such high hopes for both of these teams this year, but injuries have a way of doing this sort of thing to a season. Oddly enough, 3 out of the 4 Crushers wins came against, WoWW, The Cougars and The Magic, (3 of the 4 finalists), but Coach Connelly has been unable to sustain scoring week to week The Onslaught are on a late season roll with the re-emergence of Terrell Davis, winning 3 of their last 3 including one against The Crushers week 11. I suspect that trend will continue. Onslaught 55 Crushers 50
Good luck to all. |
